Come On! Set a GOAL!

LinkThis time of year I sit down at my computer and set some goals for my fitness. I try and set a goal that I haven't set before, and try and better the goals that I set last year. I vow to at least stay the weight I am by the end of the year, and hopefully be thinner (at least for swim suit season.) This next year I'm going to do my first bike race, Little Red Riding Hood. I'm excited for it. I'm also going to do another Tri. I'm going to better my time on the Striders 1/2 marathon. I'm going to run a 1/2 I haven't run before, and I'm fighting myself on whether I'll run a full again. I'll let you know how that fight turns out.

I'm challenging you to set some goals, and Post them either on the side bar or in the main part of the blog. We will all support you, and try and help you reach your goal. We may even join in with you. If you look at the side bar you'll see the things I plan to do so far. I'll be adding on.

I read an article that made me think about all of this. Here is the start of the article, and a link to the rest.

If you're trying to lose, get healthy, build muscle or excel at a sport, you'll need specific goals. When you don't have a specific goal, it's difficult to keep exercising and to track your progress to see how far you've come. Before you get busy, take a moment and ask yourself these questions: 1. What do I want to accomplish with this exercise program?
2. Is my goal realistic and attainable?
3. Do I know how to reach my goal?
4. When do I want to reach my goal?
5. How will I reward myself when I reach my goal?

I'm not sure where to put my goals --maybe the comments aren't the right place -- but writing them down is a good first step I guess.

Short-term goals are #1 to #4:

1. Lose 5 pounds by the end of the year (part of the stupid 7 pounds I have gained since spring).

2. Do a boot-camp type workout twice a week (probably M and F with Tiff).

3. Do at least two more days of cardio for 45 minutes a time (probably T & Th or Sat, doing running but maybe a spin classes too).

4. Be dilligent with my eating, knowing I will have some "free" days with the holidays, make the rest of the time count.

Midterm goals are #5 to #9:

5. Lose another 5 pounds by Valentines Day (Feb 14th).

6. Adjust exercise and diet as needed (to be re-evaluated Jan 1 and every month therefter).

7. Lose third round of 5 pounds by tax deadline (April 15th).

8. Run the July 2010 Farmington 10k in under an hour (last year did it in 61 minutes).

9. Train and run a half-marathon (I think anyway - still sounds very intimidating).

Oh Loisanne! I love that you posted your goals. Mwah! I am proud of you that you gave yourself deadlines. I think you should run Top of Utah. I think we all should. Is it ok if I post your goals on the sidebar on the main page?? That way we can look at them and ask how you are doing and how we can help.

Great job Loisanne! I'll think of some more specific ones. But quickly, I would love to lose 15 more pounds. 5 by Jan. 30 and then the other 10 in Feb/March. Which means I need to cut out some sugar and white carbs!
I will do the Thanksgiving race to get my "race" confidence up. I'd love to do a 10k then a half and quite possibly Top of Utah!!!

You guys are soooo awesome! Great goals. I love that Laura posted her rewards. Clearly the act is a reward in its self. :)

Still missing a couple people's goals. Amy! Tara!

One thing we all seem to have in common is the goal to run a 1/2 marathon, and it's looking like Top Of Utah. I think it would be sooo great if we all did it. What do ya think?

I would love to run the Top of Utah 1/2 with you guys. But, you can't leave in the parking lot because I'm 6 hours behind you all. By the way, am I saying I will run 13+ miles or is a 1/2 marathon more than that?
