Let’s face it we could all use some new ideas for dinner, so please post your recipes here so we can all try something new. Here ya go Steph!!!&lt;/span&gt; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Slow Cooker Pepper Steak&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Prep Time: 20 Minutes&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Cook Time: 4 Hours 10 Minutes Ready In: 4 Hours 30 Minutes&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Servings: 6 &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Succulent strips of sirloin seasoned with garlic powder, then slow cooked with onion, green pepper and stewed tomatoes."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ingredients:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2 pounds beef sirloin, cut into 2 inch&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;strips&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;garlic powder to taste&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3 tablespoons vegetable oil&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 cube beef bouillon&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1/4 cup hot water&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 tablespoon cornstarch 1/2 cup chopped onion&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2 large green bell peppers, roughly&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;chopped&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes,&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;with liquid&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3 tablespoons soy sauce&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 teaspoon white sugar&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 teaspoon salt &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Directions:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Sprinkle strips of sirloin with garlic powder to taste. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil and brown the seasoned beef strips. Transfer to a slow cooker. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Mix bouillon cube with hot water until dissolved, then mix in cornstarch until dissolved. Pour into the slow cooker with meat. Stir in onion, green peppers, stewed tomatoes, soy sauce, sugar, and salt. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Cover, and cook on High for 3 to 4 hours, or on Low for 6 to 8 hours. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Serve over Brown rice...YUMMMM&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Black Bean Soup&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ingredients:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;(2)15 oz canned black beans (rinsed and drained)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;(2)14.5 oz cans diced tomatos&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;14.5 oz Chicken Broth&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 1/2 C. frozen corn&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4 green onions thinly sliced&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3 Tbsp. chili powder&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2 tsp cumin&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 1/2 tsp. minced garlic&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;montery jack cheese&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;cilantro&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Low Fat sour cream&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Baked tortilla chips &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Directions:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. combine all ingredients except, cheese, cilantro, sour cream, and chips. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Put in slow cooker for 7-9 hours or put in pot and heat to boil then reduce heat to low for 20 min. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Some of us are trying to loose weight, and some of us are just trying to make our diets more healthy.&amp;nbsp; For sure we should all be trying to get in more water.&amp;nbsp; It's a struggle, but we can't give up.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'm discouraged today.&amp;nbsp; I lost 6 lbs and was on such a high, but the last 2 days I've gained 2 of those 6 lbs back.&amp;nbsp; Why.....Well, could be water retention, or it could be I'm not logging my food in right.&amp;nbsp; I may need to be better at measuring.&amp;nbsp; I'm not gonna lie, I guess sometimes.&amp;nbsp; :)&amp;nbsp; So, I'm going to keep on keepin' on.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I ran across this recipe that I'm going to try.&amp;nbsp; I'm a huge fan of egg salad sandwiches, but they have a lot of fat and calories.&amp;nbsp; This recipe replaces the mayo with whipped cottage cheese and milk.&amp;nbsp; It think I'll add a little pickle in too because I like a little sass.&amp;nbsp; We work really hard, and I find myself taking a 10 min nap now and then.&amp;nbsp; I used to get more tired when I was first starting.&amp;nbsp; I'm a little better now than I was at first.&amp;nbsp; Then I thought, if I'm giving up something bad I should do a challenge that encourages me to add something good.  So the other part of the challenge is add a veggie to breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks.  If you're IN, post that you're in.  You can do both challenges or just one.  The challenge goes until Thanksgiving Day.  If you eat sugar, or don't get your veggies in you must post that you have failed and that you are getting back on the wagon. One of my favorite vegetable is celery and I am using it quite often. Piece of celery that contains 5 calories requires 150 calories to digest, so by eating this piece of celery, you are actually burning 145 calories! All of these negative calorie foods also contain all kinds of vitamins and minerals so they are like a natural and healthy fat burning supplements. It is much better solution to include in your diet a lot of negative calorie foods that will speed up your metabolism, then starving yourself and do exactly the oposite. Remember that in order to loose weight permanently you have to boost your metabolism and you can do that by eating every 2-3 hours. You should not limit your daily diet only to the negative calorie foods, because your body need other sources of nutrients as well. Set a GOAL!</title><content type='html'>LinkThis time of year I sit down at my computer and set some goals for my fitness.  I try and set a goal that I haven't set before, and try and better the goals that I set last year.  I vow to at least stay the weight I am by the end of the year, and hopefully be thinner (at least  for swim suit season.)  This next year I'm going to do my first bike race, Little Red Riding Hood.  I'm excited for it.  I'm also going to do another Tri.  I'm going to better my time on the Striders 1/2 marathon.  I'm going to run a 1/2 I haven't run before, and I'm fighting myself on whether I'll run a full again.  I'll let you know how that fight turns out.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'm challenging you to set some goals, and Post them either on the side bar or in the main part of the blog.  We will all support you, and try and help you reach your goal.  We may even join in with you.  If you look at the side bar you'll see the things I plan to do so far. Laskowski, M.D. &lt;/h5&gt;Mild to moderate physical activity is usually OK if you have a cold but no fever. Exercise may even help you feel better by temporarily relieving nasal congestion. &lt;br /&gt;As a rule of thumb for exercise and illness:  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Proceed with your workout if your signs and symptoms are "above the neck" — such as runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing or sore throat. Be prepared to reduce the intensity of your workout if needed, however.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Postpone your workout if your signs and symptoms are "below the neck" — such as chest congestion, hacking cough or upset stomach. Likewise, don't exercise if you have a fever, fatigue or widespread muscle aches.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;If you choose to exercise when you're sick, listen to your body. That's AWESOME!)&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: small;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"&gt;3- If you do a harder, higher intensity activity, like sprinting on a track, or a bike, you'll burn an overall greater amount of calories in the same period of time. &lt;b&gt;&lt;span style="color: magenta;"&gt;(More calories for the same about of time?&amp;nbsp; AWESOME! (1) When charged with these anabolic hormones, our bodies build more muscle mass, which &lt;span style="color: magenta;"&gt;dramatically improves weight loss&lt;/span&gt;, resulting in slimmer, more-toned physique. By tonight most of our homes will be filled with delicious candy.&amp;nbsp; I tell my kids to hide if from me, and they do.&amp;nbsp; Because, I look for it ...hard!&amp;nbsp; They've learned to make the hiding place a good one. My best advice besides having your kids hide their candy...Don't start!&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Sugar is a drug.&amp;nbsp; Once you start it's all over.&amp;nbsp; Here are some snack ideas.&amp;nbsp; When you feel the itch coming go to these snacks.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Sugar free jell-O (eat the whole thing if you have to...I do)&lt;br /&gt;2. Sugar free pudding made with skim milk.&lt;br /&gt;3. Celery or apples with a little peanut butter&lt;br /&gt;4. Almonds (just a hand full)&lt;br /&gt;5. Fresh Fruit&lt;br /&gt;6. Sugar free candy&lt;br /&gt;7. 1 Quaker Oats granola bar&lt;br /&gt;8. Sugar free Cocoa&lt;br /&gt;9. A cup of herbal tea&lt;br /&gt;10. Low fat string cheese&lt;br /&gt;11. Greek Yogurt&lt;br /&gt;12. Cottage Cheese&lt;br /&gt;13. Gum&lt;br /&gt;14. Diet Drinks&lt;br /&gt;15. OUCH!&amp;nbsp; But if you make a few changes to your salad, like changing the dressing, taking off the bacon, crutons, and fatty cheese; salads are a great way to lose the pounds.&amp;nbsp; Try and add a salad&amp;nbsp; a day to really add those vitamins and fiber to your diet.&amp;nbsp; Here are some great recipes I found on Tone It Up.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="wp-caption-text"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;b&gt; It uses 3 sets of weights and an exercise ball.&amp;nbsp; If you don't own these things...never fear.&amp;nbsp; Do the first reps standing and the others in a chair.&amp;nbsp; Use cans, milk jugs, or any other heavy item you can hold on to, or stick your exercise band under your foot and use a small amount of band for resistance.&amp;nbsp; All of us in class are pushing 40 or are over 40, so we're starting to experience a little more weight around the middle section.&amp;nbsp; But that's not all, we are starting to lose bone mass.&amp;nbsp; It's some thing we have to be very aware of.&amp;nbsp; One of the ways we fight back against both of these is to exercise.&amp;nbsp; We get calorie burn from our exercise, but when we do weight bearing exercises we help maintain our bone density too.&amp;nbsp; Milk-drinkers weigh less and enjoy a lower percentage of bodyfat than milk-avoiders.&lt;br /&gt;2.&amp;nbsp; When your body doesn't get enough calcium from your diet, it produces calcitriol to preserve calcium. calcitriol preserves the body's calcium reserves, it also stimulates the production and storage of fat and reduces fat breakdown.&lt;br /&gt;3. It's the perfect day to enjoy this delishous comfort food.&amp;nbsp; So, here's a little recipe, and some other ways to boost your immune system.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: magenta; font-size: large;"&gt;Ingredients for healthy, hearty, yummy, immune boosting chicken soup&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;½ lb. of skinless, boneless chicken breast cut into ½"- 1" pieces&lt;br /&gt;½ bunch of celery cut into ½"- 1" pieces (I like to cut up the leaves and put them in too)&lt;br /&gt;½ - 1 lb. carrots rough cut into ½"- 1" pieces&lt;br /&gt;2 large, sweet onions cut into cut into ½"- 1" pieces&lt;br /&gt;1/2 lb. of slow cooking vegetables of your choice cut into ½"- 1" pieces: rutabaga, turnips, parsnips, etc.&lt;br /&gt;½ lb. of quick cooking vegetables of your choice cut into ½"- 1" pieces: summer squash, zucchini, green beans, frozen corn and/or peas, edamame, etc.&lt;br /&gt;1 tablespoon or more to taste of chicken bouillon cubes, powder, or paste like "Better than Bouillon" and "Bear Creek." &lt;br /&gt;Splash of soy sauce&lt;br /&gt;Squirt of ketchup&lt;br /&gt;Assorted fresh and dried herbs and spices to taste: rosemary, sage, thyme, fresh ground pepper, etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Recipe&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;Place the long cooking vegetables like celery, carrots, onions, and rutabaga; plus the herbs, bouillon, soy sauce, ketchup, in an 8 quart stock pot and then fill ¾ with water.&lt;br /&gt;Bring to a boil, and then drop to a low boil, covered for fifteen minutes.&lt;br /&gt;Add chicken pieces and bring back to a low boil for ten minutes.&lt;br /&gt;Add the quick cooking vegetables like the squash, corn, and peas.&lt;br /&gt;Add water to fill stockpot to within 1 ½ inched from top, and bring to a simmer for five minutes.&lt;br /&gt;Taste and add more spices, soy sauce, bouillon, ketchup, and last of all salt if needed, to taste.&lt;br /&gt;If there is any grease of oils floating on the surface you can easily skim it off, but I don't find that necessary.&lt;br /&gt;Serve in big bowls the size of your head, repeat until full.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let the remainder cool, ladle into containers, express all the air, and freeze.&lt;br /&gt;Take frozen to work, school, etc. and microwave to reheat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="color: magenta;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;Ways to boost your immune system&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;1. EXERCISE!!!!&amp;nbsp; That's right!&amp;nbsp;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;2.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/b&gt;&lt;b&gt;Drink your lemons. Put them in your water or tea.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;3. Give your body an herbal boost. Use fresh herbs in your cooking for the best result.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;4. Get a full night's sleep. 8 to 10 hours.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;5. Given, we did do a lot of them and the more you do the harder it is to keep proper form.  So, I do expect you to lose some form, but I want you to be aware as you lose form and try and fight through.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I always say that a push-up on your toes the best exercise invented.  If you can do one awesome. If not, work toward it.  There are several variations work your way up, or if it's getting hard work your way down, but just remember not to give up on yourself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here is a little video to help you know what proper form is.  I did see some butts in the air, some butts down, and a lot of heads down.  So, watch, learn, and keep working hard, and remember, even I lose my form.  Feel free to point it out. I mean, I'm so much nicer.&amp;nbsp; She is my favorite trainer, and I wish I looked like her.&amp;nbsp; I've never seen so much discipline.&amp;nbsp; She's incredible.&amp;nbsp; I love that she is dedicated to helping people change their lives.&amp;nbsp; I look forward to watching Biggest Loser every Tuesday, and now apparently I'll get to see more of her.&amp;nbsp; She has a new show called Losing It With Jillian.&amp;nbsp; Never fear, she will not give up her Biggest Loser job.&amp;nbsp; Most of the time I'm too out of breath to talk, but I have things I want to say and just don't have time to.  I also want to learn about anything you see or have to say, so please log on and post anything you wish.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the sidebar there is your name.  Feel free to post any thoughts you have about the workouts, ideas, complaints, or just share information about your life and what's going on.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The sidebar also has links and other information.  Feel free to add to them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have linked your emails to the blog so you'll have updates as they happen.
